The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a leader in providing world-class training in science and technology education continues to partner industry and tries to expand its relations in order for industry and academia to play effective roles in nurturing talents of young people for the job market. This was disclosed by Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, when a three-man delegation from Glo Mobile Ghana Limited (Globacom), a new telecommunications company in Ghana, called on the him at his office.

Professor Ellis stated that technology was moving at a fast pace and as a state funded University, KNUST had challenges with acquiring the relevant equipment needed to help facilitate teaching and learning, he therefore appealed to the private sector to collaborate with the university in setting up laboratories to facilitate academic work.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the private sector to set up business units on campus and to offer KNUST students internships in their organizations, to provide hands on experience to students.
Gaston De Arriba, the Chief Technical Officer for Glo, stated that the visit was a follow up to earlier discussions between the two parties. He said that Glo was about to launch commercially and they wanted a partnership that would benefit the two parties.
As part of the collaboration, they would want to offer assistance in terms of providing quality service by providing mobile service for internal lines, providing fast internet connectivity and in providing infrastrusture on campus.
Derek Obuobi, noted that it was the first time a company in Ghana has placed much emphasis on young people. He said it was part of their corporate social responsibility to train and develop young talents to offer their services to industry.
Mr. Obuobi revealed that eighty nine (89) young engineers all fresh graduates from KNUST, who had completed their national service, were recruited by Glo. He was happy the KNUST graduates were doing very well.
